When customers book a move-in or move-out clean with us, the most common question we get isn't about pricing or scheduling. It's about what they need to do to get ready. The honest answer: a bit of prep on your end makes a significant difference in what we can accomplish on the day of the clean.
Here's exactly what we need from you before our crew arrives, what we can and can't do, and why these things matter.
Key Takeaways
Cupboards, drawers, and the fridge must be emptied if you want them cleaned inside
We can't move large appliances for insurance reasons, you'll need to move them yourself if you want behind-appliance cleaning
Access details (keys, codes, parking) need to be confirmed before the booked date
A bit of prep on your end produces a noticeably better cleaning result
Why Preparation Matters
A move-in or move-out clean is a fixed-time job. Our crew arrives with a scope, the right products, and a plan to work top-to-bottom efficiently. If they have to spend the first hour clearing out cupboards or moving boxes, that's time taken from actual cleaning. The job either runs over (which can affect the next customer's appointment) or finishes with less detail than it should.
The prep we ask for isn't busywork. Each item below addresses something that genuinely affects whether we can do the job properly.
Empty Cupboards, Drawers, and Closets
If you want the inside of your cupboards, drawers, and closets cleaned, they need to be empty when we arrive. We don't remove your belongings ourselves. There are two reasons:
Time. Removing items from cabinets is hours of work on its own. If our crew does that, they're not cleaning, they're packing.
Liability. Once we touch your belongings, we're responsible for them. If something breaks or gets misplaced, that becomes a dispute. The cleanest line for everyone is that you handle your stuff, and we handle the cleaning.
If cupboards aren't empty when we arrive, we'll clean the exteriors but skip the interiors. We won't charge you less for that, the scope was booked, but you won't get the full result you paid for.
Empty the Fridge and Freezer
Same principle, but with one important addition: food is a biohazard for cleaning crews. Our team isn't equipped or insured to dispose of leftover food, frozen items, or anything else organic.
If you want us to clean inside the refrigerator and freezer:
Remove all food at least 24 hours before we arrive
Defrost the freezer (we can't work in a frozen unit)
Unplug the fridge if you're moving out and won't need it cold
If the fridge isn't empty when we arrive, we'll wipe the exterior and skip the interior, same policy as cupboards.
We Can't Move Large Appliances
If you want us to clean behind your fridge, stove, washer, or dryer, you'll need to move those appliances yourself before we arrive. We don't move large appliances. Two reasons:
Insurance liability. Damaging a floor, a wall, a gas line, or a water connection by moving an appliance is a significant risk. Our insurance doesn't cover appliance moving, and most cleaning company insurance policies don't either. Ask any cleaner who claims they'll move your appliances how they're covered if they break something. The answer is usually "they're not."
Property damage. Even with the right technique, moving large appliances can scratch floors or damage the appliance itself. We'd rather skip the behind-appliance cleaning than risk causing damage that costs you thousands.
If you really want behind-appliance cleaning, the simplest solution is to have the appliances moved by movers or by yourself before our crew arrives. Then we can clean those areas fully.
Access Requirements
The single most common reason a clean gets delayed or cancelled is access problems. Before your appointment, please confirm:
Keys, codes, or lockbox details. If we're cleaning a property you've already moved out of (or haven't moved into yet), we need a reliable way to get in. Email or text us the access details at least 24 hours before the clean.
Building access for condos and apartments. Many GTA buildings require service elevator booking, concierge notification, or visitor parking arrangements. If your building has any of these, book or arrange them ahead of time and let us know what we need to do at arrival.
Parking. Our crew arrives with equipment. Street parking that requires a permit, no-stopping zones, or buildings without visitor parking can cause real problems. If parking is restricted at your property, tell us in advance and we'll figure out the best approach together.
Utilities on. Water and electricity need to be on during the clean. We can't clean without running water, and most of our equipment requires power. If you're between utility activations, schedule the clean accordingly.
If you're unsure about any of this, just message us before the clean. Sorting it out the day before is easy. Sorting it out at 9am on cleaning day is much harder.
What We Bring (So You Don't Have To)
You don't need to supply anything. We come fully equipped:
Mops, cloths, and microfiber tools
All cleaning products
If you have a specific product you'd prefer we use (some customers have sensitivities or strong preferences), just let us know in advance and we'll accommodate where possible.
What We Clean and What We Don't
Standard move-in and move-out cleaning includes:
All floors, baseboards, and trim
Inside cabinets, drawers, and closets (if empty)
Inside the oven, microwave, and refrigerator (if empty, and if booked as add-ons)
Bathrooms top-to-bottom
Interior windows and sills
Light fixtures
Dust removal throughout
What we don't include unless it's specifically booked:
Exterior windows (we're an interior-only service)
Carpet steam cleaning (available as a separate add-on)
Removing items left behind by previous occupants
Disposing of garbage or food
Wall spot cleaning
For broader move-in/move-out context, our move-in and move-out cleaning guide covers the full scope. For pricing details, see our move-out cleaning service page or move-in cleaning service page.
Use the Prep Checklist Below
To make this easier, we built a Pre-Cleaning Preparation Checklist tool below. Select whether you've booked a move-in or move-out clean, choose any add-ons you've added to your booking, and the tool generates a customized prep checklist with deadlines and what counts as "ready."
We recommend printing it and walking through it 24 to 48 hours before your appointment.
Booking and Questions
If you haven't booked yet, our instant booking tool gives you an itemized quote in under 60 seconds. We service Toronto, the GTA, Brantford, Hamilton, and Ottawa.
If you have questions about your specific situation, just reach out. We'd rather sort things out before the clean than during.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be home during the cleaning?
No. Many of our move-in and move-out customers leave us a key or code and aren't on site during the clean. Just make sure we have reliable access.
What if I can't empty the cupboards in time?
We'll clean the exteriors and skip the interiors. No refund on the booked scope, but we'd rather you know upfront than be surprised.
Can you dispose of garbage or leftover items?
No. Garbage and items left behind aren't part of our scope. If the property has items to remove, you'll need to handle that before we arrive or hire a separate removal service.
Do I need to provide cleaning supplies?
No. We come fully equipped. Just let us know in advance if you have a product preference or sensitivity.
How early should I confirm access details?
At least 24 hours before the clean. Earlier is better, especially for condo buildings with elevator or concierge requirements.
Do you service Toronto and the GTA?
Yes. We provide move-in and move-out cleaning throughout Toronto, the GTA, Brantford, Hamilton, and Ottawa.
